What is a link swap?
A link swap is a reciprocal backlink between two writers. You add a link to someone’s article inside one of your posts, and they add a link to yours. Both articles gain a citation from a real publication in the same subject area, and both writers gain readers who arrive already interested in the topic.
Backlinks are still one of the strongest signals search engines use to decide what is worth ranking. They now matter for AI answer engines too — tools such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews lean on content that is well referenced across the web. For independent publishers, swapping links with peers is how those references get earned rather than bought.

Post an article that needs links
Paste the URL of a published post. LinkSwap fetches the title automatically, you pick the topics it covers, and it goes onto the open request board.

A writer volunteers
Other members browse the board by topic and volunteer on the posts they are happy to link. There is no bidding and no negotiation — volunteering is the whole handshake. You can also send a direct request to one specific member instead of posting publicly.

Both sides place their link
The volunteer nominates which of their own posts they would like linked back to. You add their link where it fits naturally: in a new draft, in a “community reads” section, or in an older evergreen piece.

Confirm and move on
Each writer marks their half done. Once both sides confirm, LinkSwap emails you both. Nothing is auto-published and nothing is posted on your behalf.

Frequently asked questions
Does a link swap have to be one-to-one?
No. When you volunteer, you choose which of your own posts you want linked back to, and it does not have to be the post where you placed their link. You can add someone’s link to your newest article but ask them to link back to an older evergreen piece, so backlinks land on the pages where they matter most.
Can several writers link to the same post?
Yes, and that is the point. Links from several different domains are a stronger signal than one. You can also submit the same post more than once to collect links from different writers over time, which works especially well for evergreen content you want to keep ranking.
Will swapping links hurt my SEO?
Google warns against link schemes built purely to manipulate rankings — link farms and hundreds of irrelevant exchanges. LinkSwap is different: each swap is between topically relevant posts by real, named writers and adds genuine editorial value for readers. A modest number of reciprocal links between quality content is normal web behaviour. The risk appears with mass, indiscriminate exchanges across unrelated sites.
What if the other person never adds my link?
The system is trust-based. If someone does not follow through you can simply remove their link from your post. In a community this small, reputation does the enforcing.
Can I edit or withdraw a request?
Yes. You can edit the URL, title, topics, and note on your own requests; pause one to temporarily take it off the board while keeping existing exchanges active; reactivate it later; or withdraw it permanently.
